Not by the Hair of Our Chinny Chin Chins!

In a previous post, I reflected on the foundational moral of The Three Little Pigs, noting how its simplicity holds deep relevance no matter what season of life we’re in. The thoughts we entertain and the people we encounter shape the lives we lead—often in ways that either build us up or wear us down. Much like the three sibling pigs, we choose how to build our lives using the resources available to us. The results? They often reflect how wisely we select our materials, how intentionally we plan, and how diligently we follow through.

But what valuable lesson can we glean from the pigs’ bold declaration:

“Not by the hair of our chinny chin chins!”

Could this playful phrase actually be a wellspring of substance—a beacon of hope and a rallying cry for strong values, intentional living, and unshakable community?

I say: YES.

Now, as a “mature” woman, the phrase hits differently. Chin hairs have become somewhat… plentiful. (IYKYK.) But even this physical change serves as a metaphor. Life changes us—our bodies, our mindsets, our circumstances. Sometimes, we experience sweeping transformation, whether we’re ready for it or not.

What shouldn’t change, however, are our core values. These values anchor us and communicate to the world that we are committed to living intentionally, building enduring community, and fostering hope.

And so, like those defiant pigs, we can declare:

“Not by the hair of our chinny chin chins!”

We will not be shaken. We will not fold. Together, we will defend what matters most—our values, our people, our shared purpose.

Sometimes, this means plucking out the stray, unwanted “hairs”—those negative thoughts, words, and actions that pop up uninvited and hinder our ability to care for others, shine our light, and share our blessings.

My life’s mantra is simple:

Lead with grace. Grow with substance. Live with style.

So yes, I pluck my stray chin hairs—but I fiercely and faithfully guard the values that form the bedrock of my mission: to encourage faith, inspire hope, and practice radical love, all with the goal of creating Heaven equity here and now.

Strength to strength. Faith to faith. Power to power.
